More Information Manhattan-based author James Gavin (Deep in a Dream: The Long
Night of Chet Baker, Intimate Nights: The Golden Age of New
York Cabaret) returns to the Jazzschool to launch his new book,
Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne — the first major
biography of America’s groundbreaking black star and iconic beauty.
Liz Smith has called Stormy Weather “magnificent,” adding:
“I wish I could do justice to this book. I cannot. It is impossible to
convey its power.” Maye Cavallaro will interview Gavin about the Lena Horne legend
and his four-year journey through her turbulent life and times. Rare TV performances
of Horne from the author’s collection will also be screened. Email a friend
