This workshop details the life and music of the great pianist and teacher Lennie Tristano. Using recordings, videos and transcriptions of his music, students gain a better understanding of his role in the development of jazz and his ongoing influence on musicians today. Tristano’s groundbreaking method of teaching improvisation, his early explorations into free improvisation and his use of technology such as multi-tracking and tape manipulation are all addressed.
