A phenomenal but short-lived all-star Latin jazz big band from the Late 70s, Esencia has reformed in support of a recently re-discovered recording (Esencia, now available as part of the Bay Area Jazz Archives Series on Jazzschool Records). Featuring Mary Fettig, flute, sax; Tim Acosta, Tammy Ellis, Richard Theurer, trumpet; Al Bent, Doug Beavers, trombone; Jorge
Ellington, vocals; Mark Levine, piano; David Belove, bass; Paul VanWageningen, drums; Danilo País, percussion; and Omar Ledezma, vocals, percussion. Special note: anyone who can correctly identify everyone in the 1979 photo will receive a free copy of the new Esencia CD.
